Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

What is EMDR?

EMDR therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. As described by Laurel Parnell, EMDR therapy incorporates bilateral stimulation into a comprehensive approach that processes and releases information trapped in the mind and body, freeing people from disturbing images and body sensations, debilitating emotions, and restrictive beliefs.

What does EMDR treat?

In addition to treating PTSD, single incident and complex trauma, therapists have also had success treating panic attacks, complicated grief, disturbing memories, phobias, pain disorders, performance anxiety, addictions, sexual and/or physical abuse.

What can you expect from EMDR?

Length of time to treat a presenting issue varies and is dependent on the complexity of the trauma, phobia, attachment issue, etc. You can expect a marked decrease in distress associated with the target issue and a more positive self-belief.
